R1 702 Supervising the Response: Leadership in Active Attacker Incidents Workshop – Coeur d’ Alene

Description:

The purpose of this lesson is to equip law enforcement supervisors with leadership strategies to effectively manage personnel safety, decision-making, and tactical coordination during active
attacker incidents, with the goal of saving as many lives as possible.

  • Identify worst possible outcomes of an active attacker event using inverted thinking and the law enforcement responses that aid in preventing those outcomes.

  • Review commonalities of active attacker events, including location, victims, and weapons.

  • Identify incident priorities of initial responding officers and supervisors during an active attacker event and how they are accomplished through an integrated response.

  • Identify key functions within the National Incident Management System Incident Command System using the Active Shooter Incident Management Checklist.

  • Analyze responses to active attacker events through case studies and evaluate how supervisory decisions affected positive and negative outcomes.
