Major Jens Pattis serves as Division Administrator of the Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academy, bringing more than 20 years of distinguished law enforcement experience, military service, and executive leadership to the position. A veteran of the United States Army, Major Pattis served six years as an M1A1 Armor Crewman before beginning his law enforcement career with the Idaho State Police in 2004, following his graduation from ISP Advanced Training Class #29.
Throughout his career with the Idaho State Police, Major Pattis has served in a wide range of operational, instructional, supervisory, and executive leadership roles. His assignments have included serving as a District 3 Patrol Trooper, Capitol Trooper with the Executive Protection Unit, member and supervisor of the ISP Motorcycle Unit, Patrol Sergeant, Patrol Lieutenant, Captain of the Regional Communications Centers, and Major overseeing the Idaho State Police Western Command. As a member of ISP’s executive leadership team, Major Pattis provided strategic leadership and operational oversight for patrol operations, criminal investigations, Executive Protection and Capitol Security, Forensic Services, and Regional Communications Centers.
Major Pattis has maintained a strong commitment to training, professional development, and the advancement of others throughout his career. His instructional and specialized assignments have included serving as a Field Training Officer, Recruiter, Drug Recognition Expert, Ethics Instructor, Police Motorcycle Instructor, and Statewide Electronic Ticket Administrator. These assignments, combined with his extensive command and executive leadership experience, have provided Major Pattis with a comprehensive perspective on the training, professional standards, and support necessary to prepare law enforcement professionals and agencies for success.
Major Pattis is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command, Class #474, and the FBI National Academy, Session #287- two nationally recognized programs dedicated to developing and advancing leadership within the law enforcement profession.
Selected to lead Idaho POST in 2026, Major Pattis oversees the training, certification, decertification, curriculum, and professional standards that ensure Idaho’s law enforcement and public safety professionals are prepared to serve with the highest levels of competency, integrity, and professionalism.
As POST Administrator, Major Pattis is committed to strengthening partnerships with Idaho’s public safety agencies, advancing the professional development of those who serve, and ensuring POST delivers high-quality training, meaningful support, and consistent professional standards across the state.
