R3 121 SFST Refresher – Heyburn

Description:

This Standardized Field Sobriety Test (SFST) refresher course is designed for law enforcement officers who have previously completed the basic SFST training.  The 5-hour course will focus on reinforcing skills in recognizing and interpreting DUO evidence, administering and scientifically validated sobriety tests, and describing DUI evidence clearly.  The training will include a review of the three phases of DUI detection: vehicle in motion, personal contact, and pre-arrest screening.

Participants will also review the administration and interpretation of the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFSTS) including Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN), Walk-and-Turn (WAT), and One-Leg Stand (OLS).  Emphasis will be placed on proper documentation and report writing.  The course will use instructor-led presentations, demonstrations, and hands-on practice.  This refresher training is intended to enhance officers’ abilities to detect impaired drivers and to support effective DUI enforcement.  The training will also include an introduction to drug impaired driving.
