R4 227 Interview and Interrogation Case Law – Idaho Falls
May 20 2026, 8:00am-5:00pm
Credit Hours: 8
Course Number: R4 277
Description:
This course helps officers master the legal principles that govern interviews and interrogations, focusing on the Fifth and Sixth Amendments so you can gather evidence that’s both solid and admissible. You’ll learn about Miranda rights—where they came from and how they apply on the street—including when someone is considered “in custody,” what counts as interrogation, and how to secure a valid waiver. The course also tackles more advanced topics like how to resume questioning legally after a suspect invokes their rights, how to fix mistakes, and how special rules apply to juveniles. We’ll also cover the Fruit of the Poisonous Tree doctrine and what happens in non-criminal settings like administrative interviews.
