Description:
ASBLA’s Boating Under the Influence Enforcement / Seated SFST Trainer Development Program is a 24-hour course. This Train-the-Trainer course will prepare the professional, agency-sponsored trainer with the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver the NASBLA curricula within his or her agency and to marine law enforcement partners. The course will focus on the following areas:
-Facilitating officers in detecting and deterring BUI violations
-Teaching laws relative to BUI enforcement
-Explaining the three phases of BUI detection
-Discussion of research and validation of standardized field sobriety tests (SFSTs)
-Teaching concepts and principles of horizontal gaze nystagmus
-Delivering the seated battery of SFSTs
-Demonstrations and student practice of the seated battery of SFSTs
-Review of the standing battery of SFSTs
-Evaluation of test subjects; alcohol workshop video
-Logistical issues in BUI enforcement
-Evaluation of test subjects; live alcohol workshop
-Processing the arrested subject and preparation for trial
