Administrator Brad Johnson
Brad Johnson has over 40 years of experience in military and civilian law enforcement. A graduate of the University of Idaho with a BS in psychology, he spent 20 years in the military (active duty and ready reserve) as a commissioned officer in the US Army Military Police Corps, reaching the rank of Major. In 1993, he elected to pursue a career in civilian law enforcement and joined the Fairbanks (Alaska) Police Department, retiring as a Deputy Chief in 2018, following a 25-year career.
In September 2018, Brad was selected as the Division Administrator of Idaho Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) with the Idaho State Police. He is responsible for the oversight of 9 POST-certified academy programs that deliver state-mandated training and maintains professional standards for peace officer and criminal justice professionals. He also supervises the development of secured testing procedures and protocols, in-service training programs, and the development and delivery of learning methods and technologies. He further maintains effective liaison with the Governor and state legislative members ensuring the timely development of legislatively mandated law enforcement training programs and the POST budget. Brad ensures the compliance of POST standards with approximately 211 law enforcement agencies within Idaho, and maintains an effective dialogue among chiefs, sheriffs, and other law enforcement executives and academic interests statewide.
Brad is a graduate of the 235th session of the FBI National Academy and has served numerous professional and volunteer organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IMPACT Section), Alaska Association of Chiefs of Police (Past President/Life Member), Alaska Peace Officers Association (Past President/Life Member), Fairbanks Downtown Rotary Club, and the Fairbanks Community Food Bank (Past President). He is a member in good standing of the Idaho Chiefs of Police Association (ICOPA), Idaho Sheriffs Association (ISA), FBI National Academy Associates, International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST), the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA), and serves on both the Idaho Peace Officer Memorial Board of Directors and the Idaho Medal of Honor Commission.
