Description:
The purpose of the Use of Force Training Program is to enhance a law enforcement officer’s understanding, judgment, and communication in use-of-force situations. This program focuses on building practical decision-making skills grounded in constitutional standards and real-world application.
Participants will:
- Gain a stronger understanding of constitutional requirements related to use-of-force decisions
- Develop proficiency in recognizing when force is objectively reasonable
- Improve their ability to identify additional factors that influence use-of-force decisions
- Strengthen decision-making skills for de-escalating chaotic situations as peacefully as possible, without unreasonably increasing risk to the officer, the public, or the suspect
- Enhance their ability to clearly articulate facts using plain language rather than conclusory statements
