Description:

This training will provide information for first responders on how to respond to incidents involving people with autism. The instructors not only work in the field but have children of their own with autism. Attendees will learn how to identify and interact with individuals with autism especially when it comes to their roles as first responders and during emergencies. Search and Rescue Strategies, Escorts and Holds, Using a sensory profile, create a search strategy, demonstrate understanding and application of safety support stances, execute the bear hug technique safely and effectively and perform one- and two-person escort techniques to ensure safety and support for individuals in crisis or escalated situations.

This class is designed for all first responders (law enforcement, Fire, EMS) on responding to those in crisis that have Autism. Training will include recognizing behaviors, proper transporting and escorting of these individuals, and other techniques in not only identifying someone with Autism who is in crisis but how to properly respond to these individuals.
