Course Number: R3 240D
Description:
The course provides officers with practical methods for identifying criminal activity from the beginning of a traffic stop and carrying those observations forward to build strong, defensible cases. Students learn to recognize current criminal trends, understand the role and limitations of pre-text stops, and identify behavioral and vehicle-based indicators that may signal further investigation. The course covers how to conduct effective roadside interviews, evaluate documents for inconsistencies, and navigate key legal considerations-including case law and K-9 case law-to ensure enforcement actions withstand scrutiny. Officers are introduced to best practices for identifying and processing money seizures, writing clear and through reports. Additional instruction focuses on the value of professional networking within the law-enforcement community, common concealment methods used by offenders, and approaches to vehicle searches.
