All members of Idaho POST are committed to ensuring all officers, no matter the discipline, receive high quality, relevant, and practical basic and continuing education to serve the ever changing needs of society.
The POST training academies are conducted on the Meridian campus. The curriculum focuses on the foundation of knowledge and practical skills necessary to be a law enforcement or peace officer in the state of Idaho. Successful completion of a POST basic academy or its equivalent is required to be eligible for basic certification. The disciplines instructed at our Meridian campus are Patrol, Detention, Corrections, Misdemeanor and Felony Probation, Emergency Communications, Juvenile Probation, Juvenile Detention, and Juvenile Corrections.
Attending an Academy
Before attending an academy, officers must first be hired by an Idaho law enforcement agency. Their agency will send them through the process.
Once POST receives the application (submitted by the agency) and it is cleared, POST will inform the student’s agency about their acceptance into the next academy. More in-depth details are sent 30 days prior to the start date.
We do not have a self-sponsor option in Idaho. If you are looking to attend an academy on your own accord, the college programs may be right for you.
Students are expected to meet the minimum physical requirements upon entry to any POST academy class. The students must then maintain a 75 percent Academic standard throughout the duration of the Academy.
*Please note, some agencies host their own basic academies, teaching the POST objectives. Although, the majority of Idaho agencies do send officers to our Meridian campus.

Emergency communications officers do have the opportunity to attend an online basic academy. It is up to the agency whether the officer goes in person or online.

Dorm Rooms
Dorm rooms are only available for anyone residing more than a 30 mile radius from POST. Dorm rooms are limited and are available upon request when completing the academy online application, provided by your agency.
