First-line supervisors face many challenges. New supervisory officers, as well as, seasoned first-line supervisors need to consistently adapt to the ever-changing environment within our community. Whether it is officers getting ready to transition to supervision, newly promoted supervisors attending this course as their indoctrination into their new role, or seasoned leaders continuing their leadership training, this four-day class has it all. Supervisors will learn the most up-to-date trends in leading, documenting, counseling, mentoring, communicating and more.

No matter if you are a seasoned supervisor of an officer making the transition to leadership, the position of first-line supervisor has many challenges and is constantly evolving. Supervisory officers are, by far, the most valuable management position in our agencies. This supervisory development program instructs new supervisors, those soon to be promoted, and/or seasoned supervisory personnel with the essential aspects of real-life aspects of the position. The class is specifically designed to move beyond theory and provide practical application of critical skills and abilities necessary for agency supervisors to have to protect themselves, their officers and their agencies from the liability of ineffective leadership.

- Understanding your new Perspective and those above you
- Setting the Baseline of Supervision & Discipline
- Initial Counseling with your Group and Individuals
- Identification of Future Leaders & Officer Development
- How to Properly Monitor Employees
- Effective Counseling of Employees for Minor Issues
- Progressive Discipline
- Handling the Marginal (to Problem) Employee
- Documenting Your Actions
Day 2
- Handling Roll Call (Training, Assignments, Direction of Employees, Critiques of Calls, etc.)
- Effective Report Review
- Taking/Vetting Citizen Complaints
- Common Solutions to Everyday Problems (lateness, absenteeism, production, failure to follow orders, etc…)
- Understanding Serious Personnel Issues & How to initially address them (insubordination, deviant behavior, Officer Involved DV, Sleeping on Duty, & more)
- Shaping the Narrative for Social Media Activists
- Managing Civilians & Volunteers
Day 3
- Handling Critical Incidents (EDP, Barricades, Suicidal Individuals & More)
- ICS Basics
- Monitoring/Adaptation to evolving situations
- Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Monitoring Your Employees
- Employee Assistance (EAP) what is it
- After Action Debriefs and why they are important
Day 4
- Open Discussion on Critical Issues within the agencies attending
- Digital Evidence Review
- Investigation of On the Job, Work-Related Injuries
- Investigation of Police Vehicle Crashes
- Essentials of Education & Networking
