Description:  Idaho Crisis Conference –

The Department of Health and Welfare Division of Behavioral Health (DBH) is please to present the Idaho Crisis Conference 2023.  This free, two-day training aims to offer something for all members of the crisis response system.  The conference is February 8th and 9th, 2023, and features one virtual day and one in-person day to accommodate the needs across the state.

Virtual Training  February 8  

Day One is a virtual event for first responders, probation & parole, detention, corrections, and dispatch.  Ellis Amdur is one of the most prominent trainers in the Pacific Northwest on verbal de-escalation of aggressive and mentally ill individuals. He has been a lead trainer for close to four hundred law enforcement and correctional institutions, social services agencies, schools and various businesses, all on crisis intervention related subjects. Ellis’s vivid descriptions of aggressive and mentally ill people and his true-to-life role- playing of the behaviors in question give participants an almost first-hand experience of facing the real individuals in question.  DBH will be purchasing e-books for all participants, please be sure to identify your profession and leave a working email address where the e-book will be sent prior to the training.  A WebEx link will be sent to all participants before February 8th.

Classroom Training  February 9

Day Two is an in-person event for all members of the crisis system including first responders, probation & parole, corrections, dispatch, DHW staff, community providers, schools, and hospitals.   First responders, probation & parole, corrections, and dispatch need only attend the first half.  Dr. Peter Langman leads the morning session with information on preventing school shootings. He is a psychologist whose research on school shooters ahs received international recognition.  He is a researcher with the National Threat Assessment Center of the U.S. Secret Service and is the Director of Research and School Safety Training with Drift Net Securities.  QR codes will be available for participants to scan and purchase any books Dr. Langman has available at retailers.

First responders, probation & parole, corrections, and dispatch need only attend the first half.(you’ll register for the full day, but only need to attend the first half).
