Description:  National Honor Guard Academy

The NHGA is a unique training opportunity that carefully blends classroom and  practical training into a comprehensive 40-hour course for all Public Safety agencies to lay the foundation and elevate their ceremonial knowledge. The intense training culminates with a complete mock funeral to include planning and conducting events at a funeral home, church and cemetery.

This invaluable training you hope to never have to use, but if you do, this training will provide you the skillset to deliver with the highest honors.

Course topics include:

• Line of Duty Death (LODD) & non-LODD procedures and protocols
• Drill movement and techniques
• Honor Guard and Color Guard history, traditions and development of SOGs
• U.S. Flag etiquette, procedures & commands with posting and presenting
• Casket handling & movements
• Funeral pre-planning through post care

Students are evaluated on their command and coordination as well as their drill and ceremonial knowledge and execution.  A formal graduation ceremony marks the end of the week in which families and Agency Heads  (or designee) are welcome to attend.
