The primary duties of an Office of the Attorney General investigator include conducting interviews, obtaining and analyzing documents and other evidence, serving subpoenas, obtaining and executing search warrants, preparing reports and exhibits, maintaining investigative case files, testifying in court, and interfacing with other law enforcement agencies. Frequent travel throughout Idaho is required. The successful applicant will be assigned to the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) in the Criminal Law Division. This is a sworn law enforcement position. This investigator will be responsible for investigating cases involving technology-facilitated crimes against children. These include exploitation, enticement, sextortion and hands-on offenses. This work requires the investigator to frequently view graphic videos, photographs, and chat logs of child sexual exploitation for investigative purposes, such as to establish crimes committed and to locate evidence to be used in the identification/rescue of live victims and the prosecution of offenders. The Office of the Attorney General requires all its employees routinely exposed to such content to participate in a mental health resiliency program run by a certified clinician. This announcement is being used to fill up to four DNA positions. These will either be Forensic Scientist 2 (FS2) or Forensic Scientist 1 (FS1) positions as an underfill. Incumbents are expected to meet requirements and successfully undergo routine proficiency testing and certification specific to their discipline. Pay range for the FS2 is $29.03 to $50.05 per hour. The Forensic Scientist 1 (FS1) is an entry-level position, which will work under the direct supervision of a more experienced Forensic Scientist. The incumbent may be certified as an FS2 upon successful completion of a specified training program and two (2) years experience in the FS1 position (or) demonstration of meeting the minimum qualifications and qualifying work experience of an FS2 position and a six-month probationary period of 1,040 hours. Pay will be adjusted accordingly at the time the incumbent is certified as a FS2. Pay range for the FS1 is $25.20 to $39.38 per hour. Candidate will be required to obtain specialty certification by the American Board of Criminalistics in Forensic DNA within three (3) years of being selected for or promoted to a Forensic Scientist 2 position. Incumbents routinely handle toxic/carcinogenic chemicals and biological hazards. Circumstances may require physical exertion and the ability to lift heavy objects. They must pass a rigorous physical examination in order to participate in clandestine laboratory investigations. This may include periodic biological and medical testing. This announcement is being used to fill an Idaho State Police (ISP) Forensic Evidence Specialist in Pocatello, Idaho. ISP Forensic Evidence Specialists must possess highly developed interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate the demands of user agencies. Incumbents work with people from all social and economic backgrounds and deal with information that is of an extremely sensitive and confidential nature. Incumbents also routinely handle toxic/carcinogenic and corrosive chemicals as well as biological material. They will be required to have a vaccination for certain infectious diseases or sign a declination. The position requires standing for approximately six hours a day. Subject matter in this position includes routine exposure that is graphic in nature: i.e., autopsy photos, body parts, body fluids, and explicit case reports.
